Man Charged After Fake Crash Reported
To Distract Police From A Break In
On November 1st, at approximately 12:45 am, Kings District RCMP officers were investigating a report of a motor vehicle collision on Highway 101 near Coldbrook when they received a report of a break and enter at a commercial property on Opportunity Lane. With no evidence of a collision having been found, officers were re-directed to the break and enter.
Upon arrival, officers observed that windows in the building had been broken and learned a man had been seen on the property. Officers quickly located and safely arrested a man matching the description nearby.
During the investigation, officers determined that the reported motor vehicle collision was unfounded and was used to divert police resources away from the area where the break and enter occurred. Investigators also identified the same man as being involved in two additional incidents at commercial properties in the Coldbrook Village Park Drive area in which buildings and vehicles were damaged. These incidents occurred overnight between October 31st and November 1st and were reported on November 1st after the suspect had been taken into custody.
Jessie Miller-Dixon, 23, of Waterville, has been charged with Breaking and Entering with Intent, Mischief (four counts), and Fail to Comply with Release Order (four counts). He appeared in Kentville Provincial Court on November 2nd and was released on conditions pending future court appearances.
The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information about these incidents is asked to contact Kings District RCMP at 902-679-5555. To remain anonymous, contact Nova Scotia Crime Stoppers, toll-free, at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
